Oregon’s Troy Dye, Jordon Scott named to Nagurski Trophy watch list

EUGENE — Oregon linebacker Troy Dye has made his way onto a fourth preseason award watch list.

Dye is among the 92 players, including Ducks defensive tackle Jordon Scott, on the watch list for the Nagurski Trophy, which is presented annually to the nation’s defensive player of the year.

A second-team all-Pac-12 honoree in both 2017 and 2018, Dye was previously named to the Bednarik, Butkus and Lott IMPACT award watch lists.

Oregon’s leading tackler in each of the last three seasons, the Norco, California, native needs 121 tackles to become UO’s all-time career leader.

Scott had 29 tackles with 3.5 for loss, including one sack, as the focal point of attack for Oregon’s defensive line last season.

It’s the latest accolade for Dye, and Scott becomes the sixth Oregon player named to a preseason watch list. Justin Herbert is on watch lists for the Maxwell and O’Brien awards, CJ Verdell and Travis Dye are each on the Walker award watch list and Jake Hanson is on the Rimington Trophy watch list.

An Oregon player has never won the Nagurski Trophy, which went to Kentucky’s Josh Allen last year.

The Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) and the Charlotte Touchdown Club will announce five finalists for the 2019 Bronko Nagurski Trophy on Nov. 20. The finalists will be invited to the 2019 Bronko Nagurski awards banquet at the Charlotte Convention Center on Dec. 9, where the winner will be announced.
