EUGENE — One of Oregon’s top performing freshmen suffered an injury during Saturday’s scrimmage at Autzen Stadium.

Mycah Pittman, who had begun splitting reps with the starters and second team at slot receiver, landed on his shoulder while making a catch.

“(He) landed on it pretty good," Oregon coach Mario Cristobal said. "I think some people that were out there saw it, and he caught the ball.”

Cristobal said Pittman, who enrolled in the middle of spring practice and is expected to be a major contributor for the Ducks this season, is being evaluated.

UPDATE: Pittman had his right arm in a sling Sunday.

Pittman led Oregon receivers with seven catches for 48 yards during the spring game and was among the top performers in fall camp, with quarterback Justin Herbert saying the freshman didn’t have any drops before Saturday’s scrimmage and backup Tyler Shough’s best completion percentage has been to Pittman.

“He’s special,” Herbert said. “He’s a smart guy, knows what he’s doing, runs really good routes and he’s pretty fast as well. ... I’m really excited to see him play because I know he’s going to play and he’s going to make some big plays this year.”

Jaylon Redd is expected to start at slot/Y and Pittman was backing him up. But Oregon’s depth behind Pittman on the inside is mostly receivers who typically play outside, like Johnny Johnson III or Juwan Johnson, who are in line to start at Z and X, respectively.
