EUGENE — Oregon coach Mario Cristobal was named AP’s Pac-12 Coach of the Year and Ducks left tackle Penei Sewell split the conference’s Offensive Player of the Year honor with a pair of Utah Utes.

Cristobal, in his second season as Oregon’s head coach, was named the Pac-12 Coach of the Year by a panel of journalists who cover the league following the Ducks’ win over Utah in the Pac-12 Championship Game. He earns a $25,000 bonus for winning conference coach of the year, bringing his total bonuses earned this season to $1.2 million.

No. 6 Oregon (11-2) lost its season opened to Auburn but reeled off nine straight wins to get back into the College Football Playoff picture before a stunning road loss at Arizona State. The Ducks went on to win the Civil War and the conference title game, knocking Utah out of the CFP conversation and even a New Year’s Six bowl in the process of a 37-15 win, and will face Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl.

Sewell is among five Oregon players named first-team all-Pac-12 by the AP, including three offensive linemen. The sophomore split Offensive Player of the Year honors with Utah quarterback Tyler Huntley and Utes running back Zack Moss, with each receiving four first-place votes.

Sewell won the Morris Trophy as the top lineman in the Pac-12, as voted on by the conference’s players, earned conference Offensive Lineman of the Week honors four times this season, was named an FWAA All-American and is a finalist for the Outland Trophy.

Moss, who became Utah’s all-time leading rusher this season, leads the Pac-12 in rushing with 113.3 yards per game.

Huntley threw for 2,966 yards and 18 touchdowns and rushed for 257 yards and another five scores.

Like Sewell, Oregon left guard Shane Lemieux was a unanimous first-team selection. Right tackle Calvin Throckmorton, defensive end Kyvon Thibodeaux and linebacker Troy Dye also garnered first-team all-Pac-12 honors. Ducks quarterback Justin Herbert, running back CJ Verdell, center Jake Hanson, cornerback Deommodore Lenoir and safety Jevon Holland were named to the second team.

Cal linebacker Evan Weaver, who leads the nation with a career-high 173 tackles this season, earned Defensive Player of the Year honors and USC freshman quarterback Kedon Slovis was named Newcomer of the Year.
