No. 15 Oregon softball sweeps Notre Dame, Idaho State to improve to 13-0

Oregon softball continued its undefeated streak to open the season with a sweep of Notre Dame and Idaho State Friday at the Mary Nutter Classic in Cathedral City, California.

Haley Cruse went 3 for 4 with two RBIs and Jordan Dail allowed just one run and struck out three in a 5-1 win for No. 15 Oregon over Notre Dame and Jasmine Sievers drove in three to lead four Ducks with multiple RBIs in a 13-0 win over Idaho State in five innings.

Against the Irish, both teams worked around jams during the first three scoreless innings before Allee Bunker led off the fourth with a double and Ariel Carlson drove her in on an RBI single. Carlson later came in to score on an RBI fielder’s choice by Sievers.

Notre Dame got a run back on a solo shot by Leea Hanks in the bottom of the fourth.

Both teams left the bases loaded in the fifth and Oregon broke through in the sixth via a two-run triple by Cruse, who came in to score on an RBI groundout by Terra McGowan that make it 5-1.

Dail allowed the one run on seven hits in the complete game to improve to 3-0.

Against Idaho State, Oregon scored early and often, taking an immediate 2-0 lead in the first and 8-0 after two thanks to a pair of RBI doubles by Carlson, a two-run double by Sievers and RBI singles by Allee Bunker, Rachel Cid and Sievers.

Cruse added an RBI single and Lexi Wagner hit a two-run home run, the first of her career, to make it 11-0 in the third, and Maddie Hopper and Vallery Wong each drove in runs in the fourth.

Brooke Yanez struck out five over three innings and Samaria Diaz and Makenna Kliethermes each threw a scoreless inning of relief in the run-rule win, Oregon’s sixth shutout of the season, which already surpasses its total from last season.

Cruse combined to go 5 for 6 with three RBIs, four runs scored, a double and triple in the doubleheader. She is 11 for 14 (.786) with nine runs scored and four RBIs at the Mary Nutter Classic.
