Kilgore College (Texas) post Arielle Wilson has never met Oregon Ducks women’s basketball coach Kelly Graves.

The 6-foot-6 post has never visited the University of Oregon campus.

But when Oregon called two weeks ago to express interest in quickly developing a relationship with the possibly of making her a late addition to the roster, she hoped it would lead to an official offer.

That scholarship came Tuesday, and she committed on the spot, waiting until the following evening to make her decision public:

“When I first got the call (Tuesday), coach Graves called me and said, ‘We would love to have you on our team to become a Duck.’ I accepted and told him, ‘I’d love to be a Duck’ and it went on from there," she said.

Despite a lack of familiarity with the ins and outs of the Oregon basketball program, Wilson said she is fully aware of its reputation and what Graves offers as a basketball coach.

“I’ve known about the school," she said. "It’s a big school. I’ve known about coach Graves and how he develops players with my skillset. It feels like a perfect fit and I just decided that was the school for me to go to.”

Wilson, who has two years to play two, averaged 1.9 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.9 blocks in 14 minutes per game last year.

But she feels that isn’t a complete picture of her talent, and she’s eager to show what she can do against elite competition in Eugene.

“When I go to Oregon, I do plan on playing and showing people my skillset," Wilson said. "With my height and skillset that I have, I haven’t been able to show it. Coach Graves has seen my highlights, he sees what I bring. When I go to Oregon everybody will finally see what I can do and what I bring to the basketball court.”

Wilson intends to arrive on campus in July and will be immediately eligible.
