Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang will visit Portland next month.
Yang plans to host a July 13 rally in Pioneer Courthouse Square in downtown Portland, then move across the Willamette River to raise money. Supporters at that event can pay $85 to take photos with him or $350 to earn the title of “super fan."
Yang has gained attention for his campaign pledges that include a “universal basic income” for all U.S. adults.
His campaign will be the first to stop in Oregon before the 2020 presidential election. Yang faces 23 other hopefuls for the Democratic nomination, including Washington Gov. Jay Inslee. None of them have yet held a public campaign event in Oregon.
Oregon is a blue-state stronghold, so other Democratic hopefuls will likely visit as the election cycle heats up. Portland’s own U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley had considered a presidential run but announced in March that he would not seek the seat.
