Salem Republican Raquel Moore-Green was sworn into office Thursday to represent House District 19, filling a vacancy created when former Rep. Denyc Boles was appointed to a state Senate seat.
Moore-Green said her priority ahead of the one-month 2020 legislative session will be to listen to constituents and get to know them better.
"It’s truly an honor and a privilege to be trusted to serve the constituents of House District 19, which encompasses south Salem, Aumsville and Turner,” Moore-Green said. The oath of office was administered by Oregon Supreme Court Justice Meagan A. Flynn.
Salem’s new representative has worked in fundraising for the YWCA of Salem and the United Way of the Mid-Willamette Valley, and now works as a consultant for non-profit and for-profit businesses. She served on the city of Salem’s budget committee.
Moore-Green also worked as a campaign manager including for former Rep. Kevin Cameron and the late Sen. Jackie Winters, both Republicans from Salem, and worked as a legislative staffer for Cameron and Winters. Boles, who previously held the House District 19 seat, was elevated to the Senate after Winters’ death in late May.
Moore-Green and her husband James Green have lived in the Salem area for 24 years, and they have three adult children and ten grandchildren, according to the House Republican Office.
