Portland metro Tuesday weather: Last dry day for a while, then rain moves in through the weekend

Fall weather takes another turn later this week, with rain moving in and hanging around through the weekend. Tuesday, however, looks dry. Expect cloudy skies for much of the day and a high of 63.

The high-pressure system that has been keeping the rain out of Oregon moves off east Tuesday night. Then first in a long series of wet frontal systems moves onshore bringing rain and breezy conditions to the Portland area. These active patterns are planning an extended visit, according to the National Weather Service.

High winds will whip up the coast, where gusts could reach the 50 mph range Wednesday. In town we’ll have gusty winds in the 10 mph range with some stronger gusts near 20 mph. Chance of rain is 100%, and the high will only be 59 degrees. Rain accumulations in the valleys will be up to three-quarters of an inch. Locations on the coast and the Coast Range will see up to 2 inches of rain.

Cool and blustery conditions continue Thursday. There may be a slight break in the rain Thursday morning, so if you need to do things outside, that might be the best window. Cool air in the upper atmosphere could also bring in some thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Thursday. Wind gust are expected to 24 mph. The high will be 59.
