Missing Sublimity teen found dead in Three Sisters Wilderness

Trevor Mitchell

The 18-year-old student who went missing near the Three Sisters Wilderness Area was found dead by a group of hikers, according to the Lane County Sheriff's Office.

Trevor Mitchell of Sublimity was found Thursday night near Separation Lake, officials said in a Facebook post on Friday.

The Lane County Medical Examiner's Office will review the case, but the initial investigation points to suicide, the sheriff's office said.

Mitchell was a senior and international baccalaureate honors student at South Salem High School, according to the Statesman-Journal.

He was reported missing by his family on Sunday evening, and his car was spotted two days later near the Separation Lake trailhead, according to Marion County Sheriff's officials. The Lane County Sheriff's Office dispatched search teams, who combed the area on foot and on horseback Wednesday and Thursday.
