A Portland man has been arrested in the killing of a woman who authorities say was found strangled and beaten in a home near Jefferson late Saturday.

Derek Johnson, 39, remains held Monday in the Marion County Jail on suspicion of murder. The county sheriff’s office said 55-year-old Robin Stender was found dead in a home in the 12000 block of Twin Creeks Lane Southeast around 11:10 p.m.

Stender died from asphyxiation and blunt force trauma, the sheriff’s office said. The agency hasn’t released anymore information on the death, including if the man and woman knew each other.
