An Oregon motorcyclist died Sunday after being hit by a wild turkey, troopers say.

The Oregon State Police said the crash happened two miles north of Moro on U.S. 97. Vanesa Gunther, 55, of Junction City died at the scene.

Troopers said an early investigation shows the turkey flew into a northbound vehicle before colliding with Gunther, who was traveling south. Gunther crossed the northbound lane and hit a guardrail, troopers said.

The highway’s northbound lane was closed for several hours. Moro is a small city in Oregon’s Sherman County.
