A week of wild weather continues in Portland as the area braces for more heavy rain and thunderstorms.
Some individuals and businesses reported flooding Monday night and Tuesday, as the National Weather Service advised people to clear out their storm drains to avoid more flooding. The weather service said rain may be lighter Wednesday and Thursday, making for a better time to clear out storm drains.
Portland'5 Centers for the Arts, which manages five large performing arts venues in Portland, said Tuesday that its main box office on Southwest Broadway would close for the rest of the day due to flooding and would move over to the Keller Auditorium. It said the Arlene Schnitzer box office would open at 5 p.m. Tuesday, two hours before the evening’s concert.
The National Weather Service confirmed at 2:20 p.m. that heavy rain was falling around the metro area and that Canby had recorded 1.02 inches of rain in the past hour. The weather service said the heaviest showers were near Canby and Lake Oswego, and slowly moving east.
The weather service cautioned people against driving through standing water, as it’s difficult to tell how deep the water is.
