A 29-year-old driver who lost control of his car and hit several parked vehicles, causing traumatic injuries to one of his passengers, was arrested Tuesday, police say.

Police said Nicholas Woods ran away after crashing his car in Southeast Portland on 92nd Avenue just south of Powell Boulevard at 12:04 a.m. Sunday. Police formally identified Woods as a suspect on Monday, and he was arrested and jailed Tuesday.

Woods has since been released from jail, records show. He’s accused of two counts of felony failure to perform duties of a driver to injured persons, as well as two misdemeanors, and is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday.

Police said Cherie Marie Swanson, 34, was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries in the crash. On Monday, officers said her condition had improved and she was in serious condition.

Her fiancé was also in the car and was treated at the scene.
