A 43-year-old man was arrested Saturday after authorities say he repeatedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend’s current partner during a fight in Southeast Portland.

Ivory J. Watkins Jr. remained held Wednesday in the Multnomah County Detention Center on suspicion of second-degree assault. Noor Ahmed, the boyfriend, was stabbed around 6:45 p.m. in his neck, chin, stomach and back with with a knife that had a blade around 6 inches long, according to a probable cause affidavit.

He is expected to survive.

According to video footage, the girlfriend and other witnesses, Watkins and Ahmed fought after seeing each other at a gas station near Southeast 122nd Avenue and Foster Road. The girlfriend broke up the fight and drove away with Ahmed. Watkins followed the couple. The pair turned down a dead-end road on Southeast 129th Place, where Watkins caught up, the affidavit said.

Watkins and Ahmed fought again, and Ahmed was stabbed, the court papers said. Watkins then drove away.

The girlfriend identified the attacker as her ex-boyfriend to Portland police, but gave them the wrong name. It’s not clear from the court records why.

Police determined the attacker left the gas station and the dead-end road in a blue SUV that they later found parked outside a house about half a mile away from where the stabbing occurred, the affidavit said.

Officers saw the girlfriend get dropped off and go inside the home. A witness to the gas station fight told investigators he overheard the girlfriend say she was getting a ride to Watkins’ home because she suspected police would be watching her home, the affidavit said.

Police used a loudspeaker to order Watkins out of the home. Officers found blood inside the SUV and on a pair of boots and a white tank top inside the home, the affidavit said. The girlfriend then identified Watkins by name as the attacker, according to the court papers.
