PORTLAND PROTESTS: LIVE UPDATES

Updated: 4:20 p.m.

The list of downtown Portland businesses planning to close on Saturday continued to grow Friday as more companies opted to shut down rather than deal with possible protesters.

  • Multiple Starbucks locations in the downtown area that would normally be open on a Saturday, including Pioneer Courthouse Square, Southwest Fourth and Morrison, Southwest Ninth and Taylor, Southwest Sixth and Salmon, and Southwest Second and Main will be closed. On Friday, the stores had signs posted on their front doors that said: “Due to strong encouragement from the Portland Police Department and in preparation for the demonstrations this weekend we will be closed Saturday, August 17th. The safety of our partners and customers is our top priority."
  • Nordstrom at Southwest Broadway and Morrison Street, and Nordstrom Rack at Southwest Third and Morrison, will be closed.
  • The Apple store at Pioneer Place on Southwest Yamhill Street will be closed.
  • Moonstruck Chocolate Cafe on Southwest Alder Street will be closed.
  • Muji on Southwest Fifth Avenue will be closed.
  • Sephora on Southwest Morrison will be closed.
  • Coco Donuts on Southwest Sixth Avenue will be closed.
  • Kalé restaurant on Southwest Pine Street will be closed.
  • The Nike store on Southwest Fifth Avenue was planning to be open.
  • Rock Bottom Brewery at Southwest Second and Morrison will delay its opening until 5 p.m.
  • The Thorns, scheduled to play on Saturday at Providence Park, shared this statement: “The safety of our guests at Providence Park – before, during and after events – is the No. 1 priority of the organization. In line with our security practices for all activities at the stadium, we are taking into consideration events occurring in the downtown vicinity this weekend and are working closely with local law enforcement to ensure the safety of our fans.”
  • Sold-out matinee and evening performances of the Broadway musical “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” at Keller Auditorium will be performed as scheduled, though with increased security. A spokesman for the Broadway in Portland series encouraged ticketholders to allow extra time when traveling to the theater in the event of traffic delays.
  • Tea Bar at Southwest Park Avenue and Yamhill Street will be closed Saturday.
  • Foot Traffic on Southwest Taylor Street will be closed Saturday.
