Woman arrested for setting brush fires near University of Portland, fire bureau says

A 38-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday after authorities say she set four brush fires on the bluff just below the University of Portland.

Adrianne E. Clark has been released from the Multnomah County Detention Center as of Thursday morning, jail records show. She is accused of reckless burning.

No one was injured in the fires and flames were about 50 feet away from the closest university building, according to Portland Fire & Rescue.

The fires were reported around 10:20 a.m. near North Harvard Street and Willamette Boulevard. Witnesses told emergency dispatchers that a person was using a butane lighter to ignite brush and trees while walking down the trail, the fire bureau said.

One 911 caller followed Clark and later pointed her out to police officers who arrived, Portland Fire & Rescue said. She was arrested after being questioned by fire investigators.

It’s unclear why the fires were set.
