A software startup called AskNicely said Tuesday it has moved its headquarters to Portland.

Founded in New Zealand, the company’s technology is designed to help clients improve customer satisfaction. The company opened its Portland outpost in 2017.

AskNicely now employs 35 in Portland, working in customer service, sales, finance and human resources. It employs another 15 in Auckland.

The company also said it raised $10 million in new venture capital on top of $5.5 million it raised previously. Nexus Venture Partners, which has offices in Silicon Valley and in India, led Tuesday’s round.

Aaron Ward, AskNicely’s chief executive, said in an email that his company chose Portland because of the city’s relatively low operating costs and because Portland is already a hub of customer service work.

“We chose Portland because people here 'get' customer experience,” Ward said.

Oregon has abundant outposts of large technology companies but a declining number of businesses based here. Tuesday’s news, though, is the second new headquarters Portland has landed in as many days.

On Monday, a wind turbine engineering firm called Diamond WTG Engineering & Services said it has moved its headquarters from California to Portland.
