Oregon baseball thumps USC; is it too early to count out the Ducks? Diamonds & Dust

A couple things ...

-- The Oregon Ducks came alive yesterday at Dedeaux Field to beat USC 10-7.

Maybe, the Ducks aren’t done yet.

Oregon (27-25, 10-16) isn’t mentioned in any of the recent NCAA Tournament projections I’ve seen. But the Ducks could win the USC series by beating Troy (22-27-1, 10-14-1) in today’s game (noon, Pac-12 Nets/Oregon).

They close the season at home next week against No. 1 UCLA, which is an excellent last opportunity to make a good impression. The Bruins will be heavy favorites. But, well, who knows?

More on Oregon-USC in the links.

-- It looks like Oregon State will need the Ducks to go into upset mode against UCLA to have any opportunity at the Pac-12 title.

Rain scrubbed Oregon State’s scheduled Saturday game yesterday at Stanford.

There is no plan to make up Saturday’s rainout.

The Beavers (19-6, 34-16-1) are 1 1/2 games behind first-place UCLA (44-8, 21-5) and one game second-place Stanford (39-9, 20-5). The Beavers close the regular season next week at home against USC.

OSU and Stanford are scheduled to wrap up their abbreviated series at 12:05 p.m. today at Sunken Diamond (Pac-12 Nets).

The hourly weather forecast for Palo Alto would seem to indicate today’s game has a reasonable chance of getting in.
