Did Oregon get baseball hire right? And did Oregon State pressure Pat Casey into a decision?

Did Oregon baseball make the right hire with Mark Wasikowski? And what happened behind the scenes with Oregon State baseball’s decision to move on from Pat Casey?

Kendall Rogers of D1 Baseball joined me on the radio show to talk about it all.

Listen to the full interview here.

“I really thought Pat Casey was coming back,” Rogers said. “... all indications for the longest time from everyone I talked to was that Pat was coming back. It almost sounds like it was a situation to where mainly he wasn’t ready and Oregon State was ready, and (AD) Scott Barnes was maybe ready to move on, and it just got to the point where, ‘You know what, enough playing games, we’re going to move on.’"

On what comes next at OSU:

“Oregon State now has to turn the page and make a very difficult decision.”

On the hire of Mark Wasikowski at Oregon:

“I think it was a very safe hire. When you look at Oregon’s options, Andrew Checketts is a guy you probably should have taken a look at... when you look at options, Wasikowski makes sense. He’s a guy who when he was at Oregon, they won. He’s a guy who knows what it takes to win there. He’s a guy who has obviously a lot of recruiting connections on the west coast... it’s a solid hire. Will it be a great hire? To be determined... this is a program that has become a little bit of a punching bag in recent years."
