Here are the 10 cheapest flight destinations from Portland this fall

Did you wake up this morning and feel a chill in the air? Are the leaves finally falling off the tree in your backyard? Have you had an unexplained and uncontrollable craving for apple cider?

That’s probably because it is almost fall. And what better way to say goodbye to our barely-there summer than to use up your vacation time during the off-season of everything?

Yes, flying is a major contributor to global climate change. But, if you are looking to take a trip through the sky before the whole thing falls apart, Cheapflights.com has a list of the 10 cheapest places you can go from PDX.

These are median prices for roundtrip flights searched between June 1 and Sept. 4 for travel dates between Sept. 6 and Nov. 22. All flights originate at PDX.

Visit The Alamo, eat some barbeque and get some sun. The average October high in San Antonio is 81 degrees.

8. Palm Springs, $227

The average high temperature in Palm Springs in October is 91 degrees -- warm enough to jump into a pool and not so hot that you can’t stand to be outside. Double win!

7. Phoenix, $220

By October, Phoenix will be a cool 89 degrees on average, meaning it’s a nice time of year to get outside and enjoy hikes and gardens.

6. Santa Ana, California, $216

Why not take a trip to Orange County this fall? The weather is usually nice -- in the 80s -- and this airport is 20 minutes away from Disneyland. With traffic.

5. Salt Lake City, $206

Visit this city in the fall before the snowy season and you can enjoy the beautiful landscape without needing an extra jacket. You can also stop by the Hogle Zoo and say hi to Nora the polar bear.

For less than $200 roundtrip you, you can go see the Trail Blazers play the Nuggets in the preseason in October.

3. San Francisco, $156

Fall is, without a doubt, the best season in San Francisco. And $156 is a small price to pay for a truly delicious burrito. Well, $156 plus $8 or so, depending on where you get that burrito.

LA is LA. Any time of year is a good time to go and pretend you are in a movie. So why not go when it’s less than $150 roundtrip?

Can you manage to avoid gambling and over-priced Starbucks? If so, Las Vegas can be a pretty affordable vacation! With flights so cheap roundtrip, you can probably even afford to go to a show!
