Portland metro weather: Sun may peek out Sunday, followed by a chance of snow on Presidents Day

Hawthorne Bridge fog

After a foggy start, expect a partly sunny Sunday.

Snow? In Portland? Haven’t we heard that story before?

After two weeks of snow forecasts that bore little fruit, meteorologists again say there’s a chance of snow in the city this week.

But first, Sunday figures to be unusually bright once morning gloom clears. The National Weather Service expects patchy fog until about 10 a.m. followed by partly sunny skies and a high temperature near 42 degrees.

Then things get interesting. Well, a little interesting.

Overnight lows will fall near 30, so there’s a chance – a 20 percent chance – of snow on Presidents Day. Skies should clear up again as Monday goes on for another partly sunny day.

Forecasts are similar in the suburbs, with any snow accumulation likely to be minimal. Snow is likely in the mountains beginning Tuesday, though with only a few inches of accumulation.

There’s a chance snow could return in the early morning hours Tuesday, potentially continuing until 10 a.m.

Expect rain Tuesday night and Wednesday, followed by a partly sunny day Thursday – and then another chance of snow on Friday.
