Portland hits 70 degrees for 1st time in 2019

The temperature reached 70 degrees in Portland on Tuesday, hitting that mark for the first time in 2019, weather officials say.

On average, the city doesn’t see the mercury rise that high until April 2, according to the National Weather Service in Portland. The record high for March 19 is 73 degrees, set in 1960.

The weather forecast in Portland for the rest of the week calls for temperatures in the 60s. Wednesday is expected to see a temperature high near 68 degrees, Thursday near 63 and around 61 on Friday.

The record temperature marks on those days are 71, 70 and 73, respectively, according to the weather service.

Astoria, Eugene, McMinnville and Salem all set or tied temperature records Tuesday. Salem and Astoria hit 77 degrees, smashing their previous records of 72 in 1978 and 1914. Eugene and McMinnville topped out at 75 degrees, tying their record highs that have stood since 1978 and 1928.
