Portland metro area sees second day of record-breaking heat Wednesday

It was a second day of scorching heat in the Portland metro area Wednesday, as several area cities saw temps in the high 90s.

According to the National Weather Service, Portland reached 97 degrees, breaking a record of 93 degrees, set in 2002.

Eugene shattered its previous heat record by 10 degrees, hitting 99 where its previous heat record for the day was 89 degrees, in 2002.

Salem broke its record by 1 degree, at 94 degrees. Its previous record of 93 degrees was also in 2002.

Hillsboro reached 97 degrees, breaking a 1932 record of 94. McMinnville broke a nearly 100-year-old record, hitting 96. Its old record of 94 was in 1922. And Troutdale reached 97 degrees, breaking a 1986 record of 94.

The National Weather Service projects cooler weather for the rest of the week, with temperatures in the mid-80s expected Thursday.
