Portland-area tornado lasted 3 minutes, traveled 800 feet, authorities say

A tornado that briefly touched down Sunday on a Portland-area farm downed tree branches, scattered solar panels, damaged crops and destroyed a yard canopy, authorities say.

The National Weather Service on Monday confirmed the EF-0 tornado hit 4 miles north of Rock Creek. The Plumper Pumpkin Patch and Tree Farm said it was the property that was hit.

The incident marked the Portland area’s second such tornado of the summer. Another EF-0 tornado hit Northeast Portland on July 1, uprooting trees, knocking down branches, tearing shingles from roofs and causing other damage.

EF-0 tornados are classified as “weak,” according to the weather service.
