A tornado briefly touched down Sunday on a farm off Northwest Cornelius Pass Road, authorities have confirmed.

The National Weather Service on Monday confirmed the tornado was rated EF-0, making it the Portland area’s second such tornado of the summer. Another EF-0 tornado hit Northeast Portland on July 1, uprooting trees, knocking down branches, tearing shingles from roofs and causing other damage.

EF-0 and EF-1 tornados are classified as “weak,” according to the weather service. EF-2 and EF-3 tornados, whose winds range from 111 to 165 mph, are considered “strong.” And EF-4 and EF-5 tornados, whose winds are 166 mph and above, are deemed “violent.”

Two tornado warnings were issued Sunday, and trained weather spotters spotted two funnel clouds: One near the northwest edge of Forest Park and another near Orchards, which is north of Vancouver.

Rebecca Muessle, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said it was too early to confirm whether the Vancouver cloud was a tornado, but said they didn’t receive any reports on Monday of damage. She said the high wind speed in the Vancouver area Monday was 12 miles per hour.

The high wind speed in the Portland area was about 10 miles per hour. Muessle said the Aurora airport saw gusts of about 20 miles per hour.
