Brandon Fields ran 13 times for 170 yards and two scores in three quarters as Dr. Phillips, ranked No. 6 in the Sentinel Super 16, stretched its 12-year district winning streak to 47 in a row with a 38-3 home win against rival Olympia.

The Panthers (6-2) are all alone in first place at 3-0 in Class 8A, District 5 after beating the Titans for the 17th consecutive time.

Olympia (3-4, 2-1) gave the Panthers’ passing game trouble, holding Isaiah Givens without a completion until the last minute of the first half. But the Titans struggled in field position, playing nearly the entire first quarter in their half.

The Titans finished with 31 rushing yards and 99 yards overall. Shi Gaskin had seven tackles, including a sack, and Alberto Guzman had six tackles for the Panthers.

Where Dr. Phillips struggled in passing, Fields and the Panthers running backs more than compensated.

After Riley Stephens’ 26-yard field goal, Fields capped the Panthers’ next two drives with touchdowns. Fields raced left for a 28-yarder for a 10-0 lead, sparked by a block from wide receiver Jacquez Jones. On the next drive, Fields bowled over two defenders near the goal line for an 11-yard touchdown run and a 17-0 lead.

“We just wanted to run through them,” Fields said. “We wanted to set the tone early.”

The Panthers racked up 297 yards rushing, also getting 53 yards from Nivon Holland.

The Titans struggled in field position when the game was in doubt. Olympia did not get into Dr. Phillips territory until late in the second quarter. In their best advance, they could manage only a Colby Kitner 36-yard field goal in the third quarter.

“We tried to get the ball to our guys,” Olympia coach Travis Gabriel said. “Unfortunately, we played against a real, real good team. They make great adjustments, they’re coached well, and their kids play hard.”

Garrett Velin completed 14 of 24 passes for 68 yards for Olympia, which was held to 31 yards rushing.

Givens completed 5 of 10 passes for 75 yards, including a one-handed juggling 37-yard touchdown catch by Ledger Hatch halfway through the fourth quarter.

Both teams struggled with penalties. Dr. Phillips committed 11 penalties for 113 yards while Olympia drew nine flags for 60 yards.

Dr. Phillips hosts Clermont East Ridge on Thursday. Olympia falls into a tie for second place in the district with Boone and East Ridge. The Titans have games against both, starting at Boone on Thursday.
