No. 1 Wekiva raced past Olympia, 43-7, in Friday’s non-district matchup. The Mustangs (4-0) piled up 36 points in a wild second quarter to coast to victory. Their 43 points were a season high. Olympia (1-4) was unable to build momentum from last week’s victory.
Extra points:
– Wekiva got out to a surprisingly slow start, as the Mustangs were held scoreless by a fired up Olympia defense. On Wekiva’s first two drives, they were forced into a three-and-out, and then Sean Robles was intercepted.
– Solomon Edgerton’s touchdown run on the first play of the second quarter opened the floodgates for Wekiva. They added two additional touchdowns and a safety in a span of 3:12 and piled up 36 points in the quarter.
– Special teams were the story late in the second quarter. Malcolm Green’s 72-yard punt return touchdown extended the Wekiva lead to 29-0, but it was quickly answered by Olympia’s Donrick Means, who took the ensuing kickoff 71 yards to the house. Two minutes later, Terrance Moore scooped up a blocked punt and returned it 26 yards for a Wekiva touchdown and a 36-7 halftime lead.
– Supreme Richardson led Wekiva with 75 yards on nine carries with a touchdown. Larry Preston and Sean Robles alternated time at quarterback, with Preston gaining the upper hand. He completed 3 of 4 passes for 61 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Robles went 4 of 7 for 71 yards with an interception.
– The Wekiva defense wreaked havoc all night, holding Olympia to just 90 yards of total offense and five first downs.
