The City Council welcomes this online celebration as a supporter of Oxford Pride.

Oxford Pride - which was founded in 2003 - is a celebration of lesbian, gay, bi, trans, intersex and queer life in Oxfordshire. The charity aims to promote awareness of LGBTQ+ issues and provide information, education and entertainment in a welcoming and inclusive environment.

Over the last five years, the proportion of the UK population identifying as lesbian, gay or bisexual (LGB) has increased from 1.5 per cent in 2012 to 2.0 per cent in 2017. In the South East, 2.2 per cent of the population identify as lesbian, gay or bisexual (ONS).

The 2011 Census showed that there were 1,200 Oxford residents living in a same-sex couple, either cohabiting or as a civil partnership. This was 1.1 per cent of the adult household population, just above the England average of 0.9 per cent.

"We are living in a time when having a sense of community feels more important than ever. This is also true for our LGBTQIA+ community, of which we are part, here in Oxford. We welcome the fact Oxford Pride is still finding ways for us to come together and celebrate our identities even in these difficult circumstances. On behalf of the City Council, we wish everyone a very happy Pride and send our thanks to the volunteers who have made the festival possible under very difficult circumstances."

Councillor Tom Hayes, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Green Transport and Zero Carbon Oxford

Councillor Mike Rowley, Cabinet Member for Affordable Housing and Housing the Homeless

Councillor Richard Howlett, ward member for Carfax

"I am proud of what the Oxford Pride committee have done despite the circumstances at this present time. We are thankful for all the support we have got from the council, allies and sponsors. Pride is a vital and a much needed event in the calendar in Oxford and when we can, we will meet again."
