FAIRY light lined streets will soon decorate the county as we head into the festive season of ‘switch-on’ events.

Revellers up and down the county will be ringing in the Christmas countdown as many town’s push the button to light up the high streets.

Here is a list of many of the events going on across Oxfordshire, if you have any others let us know.

Thursday, November 29

  • DIDCOT - The Didcot Christmas lights switch-on will mark 25 years of the event’s Christmas Street Fair on Thursday, November 29. There will be a host of rides, stalls and activities from 4pm to 9pm in Broadway and at the Orchard Centre.
  • KIDLINGTON - Residents in Kidlington will also throw themselves into the festive season with crafts stalls, magicians, Santa’s grotto and performances on the Thursday. The event will run from 5.30pm to 8pm, with the big switch-on 6.30pm in High Street.

Friday, November 30

  • HEADINGTON - There will be a short concert, community singing plus the obligatory mince pies outside Barclays Bank for the Headington Christmas lights switch-on. It will start at 5pm with the switch-on at 5.15pm.
  • THAME - A human-sized snow globe, reindeer and a lantern parade will be among the fun and games at Thame’s Christmas Lights switch-on. There will also be the usual markets stalls, crafts, Santa’s grotto and performances before the big switch-on at 7pm.
  • WITNEY - Witney Youth Choir and West Oxfordshire Academy of Performing Arts will be among the performances in Witney ahead of the big switch-on. The festive event will start at 4pm on the Friday and run through to 8pm – the big switch-on will be at 6pm.
  • CARTERTON - A lantern parade will lead revellers in Carterton into the Christmas holidays as the switch-on event is held on Friday, November 30. The lantern procession starts at the Community College from 5.15pm and will lead on-lookers through to the Christmas light switch-on at 6pm. Afterwards, there will be carols around the Christmas tree and a fun fair, grotto and stalls outside the town hall.
  • WHEATLEY - There will also be carols and silver band in Wheatley as the village turn on its Christmas lights. The event will run from 6pm to 7.30pm with activities being staged in High Street.

Saturday, December 1

  • ABINGDON - A Christmas extravaganza will be held in Abingdon with the big switch-on event from 9am on Saturday, December 1. It includes a host of games, performances and activities in Market Place and nearby before the lights will be turned on at 6pm and followed by fireworks.
  • BICESTER - On the same day there will be market stalls and entertainment at the first ever Saturday switch-on in Bicester. There will be fair rides, performances, lantern-making and more from 10am, as well as street entertainment including ‘roller-skating baubles’ stilt walkers and of course Santa from 4pm. It will be based around Market Square and Sheep Street and lights will be switched on at 6pm.

Sunday, December 2

  • WALLINGFORD - A celebration of 'Wallingford at Christmas' will spread some festive cheer as music, performers, stalls and activities will decorate Market Place. The event on Sunday, December 2, will have something for all the family running from midday through to the Christmas tree lights switch-on at 5pm followed by fireworks.

Friday, December 7

  • Wantage - The traditional Wantage Dickensian Evening will once again mark the town’s move into the merry season with a host of festivities in Market Square. It will run from 6pm to 9pm with stalls, games, performances and many Victorian costumes.
