HIGHFILL, Ar. – UPDATE: According to KFSM, Police and fire officials from multiple county agencies were on scene but found no evidence of smoke in the plane’s cockpit.
Gilbert Neil, the public safety director at XNA, says that the plane had barely reached flying altitude before a flight attendant noticed smoke coming from the plane’s cockpit, causing the plane to be diverted to XNA.
ORIGINAL STORY:
An aircraft made an emergency landing in Northwest Arkansas after taking off from the Springfield airport.
Envoy Air, a carrier with American Airlines, took off around 1:30 p.m. from Springfield and landed at XNA, in Northwest Arkansas safely after reporting to have smoke in the cockpit.
The reason for the smoke is still unknown at this time.
According to KNWA, 57 people were on board.
The flight’s original destination was to Dallas, Texas.
