The council is reminding residents to recycle all the extra packaging that comes with chocolate Easter Eggs, including boxes, foil wrappers and clean tissue paper. Considering that around 80 million chocolate eggs are sold in the UK every year, that is a significant amount of packaging.
Ian McMurdy, waste awareness officer at Central Bedfordshire Council said: “We know that our residents love to recycle and every Easter we always see a seasonal increase in packaging in our residents’ kerbside bins.
“These Easter treats may not help reduce our waistlines, but we can help slim our black bin by recycling as much packaging as possible.”
The council’s four Household Waste Recycling Centres in Ampthill, Biggleswade, Leighton Buzzard and Thorn near Dunstable will be open as normal during the Easter weekend for anyone wishing to get rid of their excess packaging.
