STANDING guard over the War Memorial in Peebles are two Tommies.

This week the striking six-foot-high aluminium silhouettes, which are part of the Here But Not Here remembrance project, were installed at the Quadrangle.

The Peebles branch of the Royal British Legion had already bought one of figures.

And a public appeal through the Peeblesshire News to raise a further £750 for a second figure was overwhelmingly supported..

Mike Stark, President RBLS Peebles Branch, told the Peeblesshire News: "These six-foot version of the There But Not There logo are a poignant and affective image that embodies the There But Not There message.

"We are delighted that the public of Peeblesshire backed the appeal to purchase a second Tommy figure as they are a fitting tribute to the fallen on this centenary of the end of World War One."

The six-foot-high aluminium silhouettes are part of the Armistice centenary Here But Not Here project to help commemorate, educate and heal.

All profits from the sale of each statue aid forces' charities.

On Sunday the Tommies will be joined by servicemen and women, ex-servicemen and women, their friends and families, and dignitaries to honour the fallen from all conflicts.
