NEWLY appointed Kelty Hearts manager Barry Ferguson bypassed his team’s exit from the Scottish Cup at Peterhead.

The former Rangers and Scotland captain takes up the reins at Central Park this week – and opted to watch his team’s next league opponents Gala Fairydean Rovers, who reached the third round after beating East Stirlingshire 2-0.

Goals from Russell McLean, Rory McAllister and Derek Lyle gave Peterhead the 3-2 victory over Kelty at the Balmoor Stadium.

Ciaren Chalmers and Murray Carstairs netted for Hearts.

At Netherdale Ricky Miller and Ruari Paton were on target for Gala Fairydean Rovers as they dumped Shire out of the competition.

Man of the match Miller said: “It was a tremendous performance from the boys to beat a good East Stirlingshire team.

“It’s huge for all of us to reach the third round of the Scottish Cup.”

Managerless East Kilbride came from behind to beat Spartans at the K Park.

Craig Malcolm scored a brace with Sean Winter also hitting the target in the 3-1 win.

Only a late Robbie McIntyre goal denied Gary Jardine earning a replay with his Civil Service Strollers team on a return to Edinburgh City at Ainslie Park.

Gretna couldn’t cause an upset either at Shielfield Park where they were beaten 3-1 by Berwick Rangers.

BSC Glasgow toppled high-flying Cumbernauld Colts at Broadwood to reach the third round.

Thomas Orr, Duncan Robbie, Carlo Pignatiello and Declan Hughes all scored in the 4-1 victory.

BSC boss Stephen Swift said: “When you consider the injuries we have it is a tremendous achievement for the club to reach the third round for the first time.

"We were maybe a bit fortunate to go in front just before half time but I thought we were excellent in the second half."

Fraserburgh left Galabank with a 2-1 win over Edusport Academy.

Greg Buchan and William West scored for the visitors with Calvin Cowie netting Edusport’s consolation late on.

Whitehill Welfare also crashed out at Elgin City where goals from Darryl Hardy and Greg Morrison gave the home side a 2-0 win.

But Stirling University did reach the third round with a 2-1 win over Devronvale.
