High School Softball Roundup: New Oxford edges Cumberland Valley on walk-off; Avery Winchell leads Cedar Cliff past Mechanicsburg

New Oxford 9, Cumberland Valley 8

In an entertaining, back and forth contest, New Oxford scored a walk-off run in the bottom of the seventh to edge Cumberland Valley, 9-8. The Eagles led 8-6 after four innings, but the Colonials tallied three unanswered runs in the sixth and seventh innings to earn the comeback victory.

Paige Dill went the distance to earn the 'W' for the Colonials. Dill struck out six Eagles while allowing eight runs on 10 hits.

Morgan Adams paced the Colonials at the plate, finishing the game 4-for-5 with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs scored. Teammates Julie Hess, Jordan Hess, and Dill chipped in two hits in the thrilling victory.

Sydney Hutcheson led the Eagles with two hits, including a triple.

Cedar Cliff 9, Mechanicsburg 4

Cedar Cliff scored runs in six out of seven innings to pick up a solid, 9-4 road win over Mechanicsburg.

Avery Winchell turned in another solid pitching performance and helped her own cause at the plate. Winchell pitched all seven innings, allowing four runs on four hits en route to the win.

Winchell went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and three RBIs. Teammate Jimiah McDonald crushed a home run in her 3-for-3 night at the plate that included two RBIs and five runs scored.

East Pennsboro 4, Boiling Springs 2

Jordan Peskie kept Boiling Springs in check offensively as East Pennsboro earned a 4-2 road victory.

Peskie pitched seven strong innings to earn the 'W', allowing just two runs on four hits in the complete game effort.

McKayla Danner, Marissa Schell, Brianna Kirk, and Josie Shermeyer each tallied one hit and one RBI to lead the Panthers offensively.

Maddi Darchicourt went 3-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored to pace the Bubblers at the plate.

Central Dauphin 10, CD East 0

Kristin Cusick put together a dominant pitching performance as Central Dauphin blanked rival CD East, 10-0 Thursday afternoon.

Cusick pitched a two hit shutout and struck out nine Panthers en route to the victory.

Alondra Figueroa led the Rams offensive, posting two hits and two RBIs.

Big Spring 5, Carlisle 2

Big Spring built an early lead and held off the Thundering Herd to pick up a 5-2 victory. The Bulldogs led 3-0 after two innings and held the Thundering Herd scoreless until they posted two runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Jenna Hurley went the distance, scattering two runs on six hits while striking out six batters.

Emilee Sullivan and Madyson Wert powered the Bulldogs offensively. Sullivan finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored, while Wert went 2-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored.

Greencastle-Antrim 12, Red Land 2 (5 inn.)

Greencastle wasted no time building a sizable lead in a lopsided, 12-2 five-inning victory over Red Land. The Blue Devils scored five first inning runs and never relinquished the lead.

Bailee Martin-Irving kept Red Land's bats in check over four strong innings en route to the win. Haley Dawson pitched one scoreless inning in relief.

Molly Ronzo had a big night at the plate, finishing 4-for-4 with two runs scored. Teammates Emma DeCarli, Alyssa Gaus, and Martin-Irving each chipped in three hits in their own rites.

Mifflin County 14, Altoona 4

Mifflin County tallied three runs in each of the first four innings to build an insurmountable lead en route to a 14-4 win over Altoona. Altoona tried to answer with three runs of their own in the third inning, but they were never able to find their footing offensively.

Madison Ream went to distance for the Huskies, racking up seven K's en route to the victory.

Madison Myers led the Huskies offensively with a 3-for-5 night that included a double and three runs scored. Teammates Jade Morningstar, Alyssa Schnell, and Olivia Ahern added two hits, while Ream helped her own cause with a home run and three RBIs.
