A new business in Harrisburg will not only sell bikes but will offer guided tours.

Pedego Electric Bike will open a 2,500-square-foot store at 17 N. Third St. in Strawberry Square in Harrisburg across from the Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts. The store is expected to open in September.

The store will sell, rent and service bikes and provide guided tours. Pedego will offer free trial rides from its showroom.

“The bikes feature 250 to 500-watt motors which allow riders to conquer hills and cycle distances up to 60 miles on a single battery charge,” according to a joint press release. “The twist-and-go throttle gives riders instant manual control over their speeds while the pedal assist functionality automatically adds power to their pedaling.”

Pedego’s models include cruisers, mountain bikes, cargo bikes and electric folding bikes among other bikes.

The dealership is owned by Michael, Denise and Drew Soisson.

“EBikes are an exciting way for everyone to stay fit, enjoy the outdoors while social distancing, and just have fun,” Drew Soisson, the store manager and co-owner said in a press release. “Designed for anyone, they are especially good because they allow the rider to use as little or as much pedaling assist as they desire.”

There are more than 125 Pedego-branded stores in the United States and additional branded Pedego locations in Canada, France and the England. The closest stores to Harrisburg are in Maryland and Virginia, according to the company website. The company was founded in California in 2008.

Strawberry Square has more than one million square feet of office space as well as a number of eateries and retailers, and is also home to apartments, a doctor’s office and several schools.
