Body found on island in Susquehanna River by fishermen: Harrisburg police

A dead body was found by fishermen Saturday afternoon on an island in the Susquehanna River, according to Harrisburg police.

It was the body of a man who had been dead for “some time," according to police, who said the man could not immediately be identified due to decomposition.

Police were called about 4:26 p.m. to an island across from the PennDOT building off of South Front Street in Harrisburg, where the fishermen had found the body.

With the assistance of river rescue responders, officers were able to recover the body near the area of the Dock Street Dam, according to police.

Police said they are now investigating, and they have asked anyone with information about the body to call 717-558-6900.
