Harrisburg shooting death: Police provide a few more details

Harrisburg police have released few new details as the investigation into a fatal early-morning shooting continues.

Officers were dispatched at around 12:15 a.m. Tuesday to the first block of South 17th Street for a report of a shooting. Responding officers found a person who had been shot. The person was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of their injuries, police said.

Sgt. Kyle Gautsch said at a news conference Tuesday afternoon that the victim’s identity is being withheld pending family notification. He declined to provide specifics on the victim’s injuries but said police know what sort of firearm was used.

Gautsch noted another fatal shooting happened earlier this month in the same general area.

Nicholas Morales, 40, of Harrisburg was killed in a shooting about 8:40 p.m. Aug. 2 on the 300 block of South 13th Street, according to police.

Gautsch said that the shootings don’t appear to be related.

Gautsch said detectives are still canvassing the area and talking to residents to learn more about what happened. He encouraged anyone who has information on either shooting, or criminal activity in general, to contact the Harrisburg Bureau of Police at 717-558-6900.
