Summer temperatures break daily record for heat in Harrisburg

Wednesday’s unseasonably warm temperatures broke the record for heat in Harrisburg on Oct. 2, a record that stood for 92 years.

The National Weather Service (NWS) said Harrisburg hit 93 degrees, which breaks the previous record of of 87 degrees set on Oct. 2, 1927.

The NWS also said Wednesday tied for the third warmest October day on record, tying with Oct. 6, 1941. A tie for first and second took place within a few days of that, on October 5 and 7 1941, with highs of 97 degrees.

The hot weather came from a front of hot air coming from the south, but will only last until early Thursday morning. A strong cold front will roll into the area, resulting in temperature highs in the 60s and 70s going into the weekend.
