A Harrisburg business owner was arrested this week, accused of stealing more than $300,000 from customers and the state, according to state police.
Owner of East Shore Auto Inc., Sean Anthony Davis, 33, of Harrisburg, is charged with five counts of felony theft by failure to make required deposits, five counts of felony deceptive business practices and two summary citations of failure to pay over taxes to the state.
According to state police, Davis stole $319,159 from five customers and the state using a variety of schemes.
One of the schemes involved Davis taking out large loans to buy vehicles, then selling those vehicles to customers, police said. He would then keep the money paid by the customers and their financial companies.
Davis is accused of stealing his customers’ tax and fee paperwork that was required to be submitted to PennDOT, police said. This led to those customers never receiving the titles to their cars.
Police said Davis also did “consignment schemes” which involved him offering to sell vehicles on behalf of clients, then keep the money that was paid to him for the vehicle sale.
The police report lists the date of the theft as June 10, however his docket sheet lists thefts dating back to September 2019.
Davis was taken into custody on Wednesday and released on $100,000 unsecured bail.
