A Perth taxi driver has described the terrifying moment a truck driver tried to run him off the road.

Rakesh told 7NEWS he was driving on Riverside Drive before he was left bleeding on the side of the road.

The 37-year-old said when he pulled over, the truck driver punched him in the face and hit him with a metal pole.

“I’ve been here for the last 15/16 years and I haven’t seen anything like that before,” he said.

“That was so crazy.”

Rakesh sustained facial injuries and a chipped tooth.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the alleged attack to come forward.
