Last week dozens of truckers carried out a similar initiative, with a spectacular parade of vehicles driving past in time for the Thursday night applause.

City councillor Ansar Ali said: “Last week I was approached by representatives of the local Private Hire Taxi Drivers and requested to advise and assist with arrangements for them to have a drive through outside the local Hospital in the similar manner to the Truckers last week to show their appreciation.

“I am delighted to advise you that following communication with the relevant people arrangements have been made for this to take place this Thursday evening (tomorrow).

“To ensure the least disruption to other road users we have restricted that only 50 vehicles are involved to represent the local Taxi Trade.

“I am grateful for this initiative from the Taxi Drivers and the support and cooperation from all involved that this takes place in a structured manner.”
