October brings cool, crisp air and lots of fun events to Virginia Beach, including:

Start the fall season with a run — or walk — at the sixth annual Coastal Edge Surf for the Cure Aloha 5K Fun Run/Walk on Oct. 5 at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. The event, created by Wahine Surf Club, begins at 4 p.m. on the Boardwalk at Second Street. Proceeds will benefit The Coastal Edge Surf for The Cure to benefit Susan G. Komen of Tidewater.

Online registration closes at 5 p.m. Oct. 3. Packet pick up and late registrations are 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 4 at Coastal Edge, 21st St. and Atlantic Ave. Registration costs $35 before Oct. 3, and $40 for late registration. Visit tinyurl.com/y4rbwojg.

Get ready for the sixth annual Hearts & Hoofbeats signature event and fundraiser benefiting Vanguard Landing, 5-10 p.m. Oct. 19, at Cedar Hall Farms, 1501 Gum Bridge Road, Pungo. Enjoy food and drinks, live music by Dunn and Doyle, auction and jewelry heist giveaway from Diamonds Direct, contests, activities, ice cream truck and more! Tickets are $100 and will help build Vanguard Landing, an innovative planned community in Virginia Beach for adults with developmental disabilities. If you love wings, local live music, and supporting worthy causes, fly over to The Shack, 712 Atlantic Ave., for Wings Over Leukemia and Lymphoma, 12 to 5 p.m. Oct. 20. There will be all you can eat wings by Lendy’s and barbecue by The Shack; drinks; and live music by MoCean, Strange Rootz and Buckshot to help the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society fight blood cancer.

Fall fun continues at the Oceanfront at PumpCon VB 2019 at 1 p.m. Oct. 26. This 21-and-older pub crawl begins at The Shack, 712 Atlantic Ave. Then crawl on to Chix, Calypso and Oceans 14. The festivities conclude at LunaSea’s Halloween party. Wear your best movie-themed outfit or favorite costume to this free admission event. See tinyurl.com/y47ott35.

Join in the fun at Come as You Art, a Virginia Art With Heart Event presented by Union Alehouse from noon to 6 p.m. Oct. 27 at 2224 Virginia Beach Blvd, Suite 113. The event benefits 99 for the 1 and other local nonprofits assisting the homeless. Dress as your favorite creative person, place or thing to enter the costume contest at this annual Music and Arts Festival. Admission is free for all ages.

Save the date: Have a “wild” time at Hunt Club Farm, 7-11 p.m. Nov. 2, during the Mardi Gras Fundraiser at Hunt Club Farm to benefit Evelyn’s Wildlife Refuge.

Guests can enjoy silent auctions, raffles, performers and an incredible slow-motion photo booth. All proceeds go to the medical care and upkeep of the wildlife at the refuge. A cash bar for beer, wine, mixed drinks and non-alcoholic beverages and food will be available. Tickets are $25. Attendees must be 18 or older.
