Each of the roughly 4,800 seniors graduating from Virginia Beach high schools will get their own graduation next month, the division announced Tuesday.

Between June 17-20, high schools will have an individual graduation ceremony for each student, who can invite up to 10 guests and walk across a stage in a cap and gown, receive a diploma and have their picture taken.

Most high schools in Virginia Beach have between 300 and 500 seniors, though Green Run Collegiate and Renaissance Academy have fewer than 100 each.

Virginia Beach is the latest school division to announce plans to honor its graduates. Others have announced virtual ceremonies.

The graduations are part of what the school system is calling “Month of the VBCPS Graduate,” which will last through June.

Students from each school will be featured in a “Pass the Diploma” video that will go on the division’s YouTube Channel in the first week of the month.

From June 9-13, each high school football stadium will light up at 8:20 p.m. for 20 minutes and 20 seconds and “2020” will be displayed on the scoreboard. The division is working with community groups and businesses to display tributes for the graduates on marquees around the city. The 87 Virginia Beach schools will also each have tributes to the graduates on their marquees.

Each graduate will get their own yard sign and on the division website, there will be a “grad wall” for family and friends to post inspirational messages to the class of 2020.
