A 28-year-old man has been charged in connection with a shooting over the weekend near the Oceanfront, police said Tuesday.
Sherman Lane, 40, was shot to death in the Atlantis Apartments complex early Saturday. His family confirmed that he died over the weekend and police confirmed his identity Tuesday.

He was shot at around 1 a.m. in the 1000 block of Atlantis Drive and died at the scene, police said. It’s about a mile from the Oceanfront.
Ditron Laquay Thigpen, of Virginia Beach, faces charges of murder, use of firearm in commission of a felony, and possession and transport of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to a police news release.
He is in the Virginia Beach Correctional Center without bond, according to online inmate records from the Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office.
