Police have confirmed they are investigating a collision between an unmarked police car and a cyclist.

Witnesses spotted a white car at the Stonehouse Bridge junction with Durnford Street, telling PlymouthLive it was driven by a police officer.

A marked police car was also spotted at the scene later along with uniformed police officers.

It is understood a 29-year-old female cyclist was taken to Derriford Hospital with an injury to her ankle following the incident last night.

An ambulance from South Western Ambulance Service Trust was spotted at the scene, although at this stage they have not replied to PlymouthLive's request for comment.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: "Police are investigating a collision between an unmarked police car and a cyclist which occurred at around 7.30pm yesterday evening, Thursday 28 May, at the Stonehouse Bridge junction, Plymouth."

Investigators would like to hear from witnesses who may have seen the incident.

Vehicle removal from the scene of a collision

In the interests of road safety, vehicles damaged in road traffic collisions must be removed from the scene as quickly as possible.

The police may exercise their statutory powers to remove your vehicle from the road.

This may be by a garage nominated by you or by the police contracted recovery agent, but you will have to meet the expense. In certain circumstances, if you belong to a breakdown organisation, then the police will contact them for you.

If absolutely necessary, a garage may be called to carry out the recovery.

In certain circumstances it may be possible for you to recover these costs.

Your insurance company or claims company will be able to advise you.
