Firefighters were seen hurtling down Union Street this evening after a 999 call was made over a blaze in a flat.

Crews from across the city centre rushed in to deal with an incident that unfolded on the main road.

Union Street is currently sealed off whilst crews assess safety at the scene.

Fire chiefs say a fire broke out in the kitchen of a ground floor flat.

Official statement from the fire service

A Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service spokesman said: “There was a small fire in a ground floor kitchen. It’s out now - thankfully it wasn’t too much.”

The fire service were placed on alert shortly after 9.10pm this evening.
