There has been a fire at Marlborough House in Devonport this evening.

The fire service has confirmed there was a blaze at the Granby Way 13-storey block of flats tonight.

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the incident.

They said crews remain at the scene but the fire is under control.

They said: "There are a few crews there at the moment but some are coming away.

"We attended a fire at Marlborough House.

"It was accidental; plastic was left on the hob."

Busy night for the fire service

There was a car fire in the car park at Derriford Hospital this evening.

A spokesperson said: “The Fire Service attended a Vehicle Fire in the above area.

“One Fire Appliance from Crownhill was mobilised to this incident.

“On arrival, crews confirmed one car well alight and got to work to extinguish the fire using one Hose Reel Jet and a Thermal Imaging Camera to check for hot spots.

“The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.

“These are the full and final details. “
