An investigation is underway following the "unexplained" death of a man in Plymouth.

Emergency services raced to Beaumont Road at about 6pm on Friday, May 22 after a 999 call was made.

Sadly, a man in his 50s was later pronounced dead.

The Force Incident Manager for Devon and Cornwall Police has today said the man's death is being treated as "unexplained".

Two people are assisting police with their enquiries.

In a statement, the force said: "At approximately 6pm on May 22, 2020 police were called to an address in the Beaumont Road area of Plymouth where a man in his 50s was later pronounced dead.

"This death is currently being treated as unexplained and an investigation has commenced to establish what has taken place.

"Two residents of the same address where the male was located are assisting police with their enquiries at this time.

"Anyone with information regarding this incident please call 101 quoting Log 572 of 22.05.20 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

There was a large emergency services presence in the area all evening and at about 11pm, one police car and a coroner's van remained at the scene.

A local resident has told Plymouth Live that two people were taken from the scene by police, a man and a woman.

He said by 11pm one police car and a forensics vehicle remained.
