A raid at a terraced house in Plymouth this morning has led to the discovery by police of a "sophisticated and well arranged" cannabis farm.

Police say that acting on information they carried out warrant at property on Durham Avenue at 9.15am, forcing entry using a battering ram.

Durham Avenue is a row of terrace houses, off Beaumont Road.

Inside they found three rooms on the top floor given over to a cannabis grow set up.

While it was considered a sophisticated and well arranged set up, it is not consistent with previous cannabis farms believed to be run by Vietnamese crime groups.

Just last week two PCSOs encountered a large scale cannabis farm believed to be maintained by a Vietnamese man who fled shortly before police uncovered the grow. Read more about that raid here.

Officers from the south and central neighbourhood team have spent much of this morning removing the plants and associated equipment from the property.

A male aged approximately in his 30 was arrested at another location in the city on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class B drugs. He is currently at Charles Cross police station awaiting interview.

Officers have been carrying out further inquiries as a result of the man's arrest and their investigation is ongoing.

Police have told Plymouth Live they believe the cannabis set up has been in place for only three or four months at most.

Workers from Western Power were also called to the property to make it safe after it was discovered the mains electricity supply had been hacked into to steal power.

Anyone with information should call 101 or email 101@dc.police.uk or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 quoting police log number 198 of 13/6/2019.
