Some people will steal anything. Among this week's gang of thieves, stealing the usual meat, cheese and air fresheners, one man stole plastic trim.

The value of his haul is not given in court records so we not sure how much was taken.

Two people was caught with knives which they should not have had in public places, including a nightclub.

And another couple of offenders were pulled over for driving while disqualified.

ASSAULT:

MARK ARCHIBALD, aged 37, of no fixed address: assaulting a man by beating – jailed for eight weeks, ordered to pay £115 victim surcharge.

JAMES PATRICK GEORGE BISHOP, aged 23, of Hornchurch Road, Ernesettle: assaulting an on-duty emergency worker and possession of cannabis – fined £170, ordered to pay £85 costs and £30 victim surcharge.

SAMUEL STOCKDALE, aged 28, of Flora Street, Stonehouse: assaulting a man by beating – 12-month community order with 40 hours unpaid work, mental health treatment and Rehabilitation Activity Requirement, ordered to pay £125 compensation, £100 costs and £85 victim surcharge.

THEFT:

DAVID BARRY CARVER, aged 43, of Park Avenue, Devonport: theft of plastic trim of an unknown value belonging to a man – fined £120, ordered to pay £50 compensation and £30 victim surcharge.

GARY HEFFRON, aged 44, of Embankment Road, Prince Rock: theft of a wallet from a man and possession of heroin – 12-month community order with three-month curfew and probation’s Rehabilitation Activity Requirement, ordered to pay £85 costs and £85 victim surcharge.

DAVID KEVIN MILLER, aged 40, of Lipson Vale, Lipson: theft of groceries worth £39 from Sainsbury’s in breach of two conditional discharges for theft – fined £160, ordered to pay £85 costs and £30 victim surcharge.

THOMAS STRUDWICK, aged 32, of Park Avenue, Devonport: theft of air fresheners, meat and cheese worth £75 – three-month curfew, ordered to pay £85 costs and £85 victim surcharge.

MARK VINNICOMBE, aged 59, of no fixed address: theft of items worth £250 from Sainsbury’s at Marsh Mills and failing to surrender to court in breach of suspended prison sentences for offences including possession of a knife and criminal damage – jailed for 23 weeks.

DRINK:

MALCOLM HURLEY, aged 48, of Wall Street, Devonport: in charge of a motor vehicle while over the legal limit for alcohol and failing to surrender to bail – 18-month community order with Alcohol Treatment Requirement and Mental Health Treatment requirement, fined £200, ordered to pay £85 costs and £85 victim surcharge, banned from driving for 12 months.

LEAH KNIGHT, aged 34, of Honiton Walk, Whitleigh: drink-driving – 12-month curfew with three-month curfew and Rehabilitation Activity Requirement, banned from driving for 52 months, ordered to pay £85 costs and £85 victim surcharge.

KNIVES:

DANNY HOBBS, aged 21, of Holmes Avenue, Efford: possession of a credit card knife in the Fever and Boutique Club – two-month prison sentence suspended for 12 months, with 100 hours unpaid work.

LEWIS STANLEY WEBB, aged 22, of Rendle Street, Stonehouse: possession of a kitchen knife in the street and threatening behaviour – jailed for four months, ordered to pay £115 victim surcharge.

OTHERS:

CHRISTOPHER CHARLES FINCH, aged 23, of no fixed address: resisting a constable in the execution of his duty – fined £200, ordered to pay £85 costs and £30 victim surcharge.

JOHN ANDREW HART, aged 60, of Wolseley Road, Ford: driving while disqualified and without insurance – fined £120, ordered to pay £30 victim surcharge, banned from driving for two months.

SIDNEY HOWITT, aged 27, of no fixed address: driving a Mercedes while disqualified and without insurance, failing to stop for a policeman – 12-month community order with 80 hours unpaid work and Rehabilitation Activity Requirement, ordered to pay £85 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

MATTHEW PALIN, aged 36, of Renaissance Gardens, Beacon Park: two counts of resisting a constable in the execution of his duty – fined £430, ordered to pay £100 compensation.

PAUL TATCHELL, aged 53, of no fixed address: threatening behaviour – fined £40, ordered to pay £30 victim surcharge.
